美國隊前三屆參加經典賽，僅在2009年的第二屆經典賽打進四強，另兩次都是在第二輪就遭淘汰。而每一次美國隊的陣容也都是眾星雲集，但就是拿不到冠軍，原因在於美國球星雖多，但他們大都抱著打熱身賽的性質參賽，當然很難展現出最佳戰力。
而這次經典賽，單從陣容上來看，美國隊依舊強大，目前已確定要代表美國隊參賽的球員包括投手Chris Archer（光芒）、Mychal Givens（金鶯）、Luke Gregerson（太空人）、Andrew Miller（印地安人）、Max Scherzer（國民）、Marcus Stroman（藍鳥），三壘手Nolan Arenado（洛磯）、游擊手Brandon Crawford（巨人）、一壘手Paul Goldschmidt（響尾蛇）、一壘手Eric Hosmer（皇家）、中外野手Adam Jones（金鶯）、二壘手Ian Kinsler（老虎）、捕手Jonathan Lucroy（遊騎兵）、外野手Andrew McCutchen（海盜）、二壘手Daniel Murphy（國民）、捕手Buster Posey（巨人）、左外野手Christian Yelich（馬林魚）。
從這分名單可預判，美國隊的先發投手輪值將會以Archer、Scherzer、Stroman三人為主，但他們都是右投，紅襪隊左投David Price也在大名單中，如果他也願意披美國隊戰袍，那麼美國隊的先發投手戰力更趨完整。
至於野手部分，Arenado、Goldschmidt、Murphy以及Posey將是中心打擊群，右打好手有Kinsler、Jones、McCutchen，左打好手則有Crawford、Hosmer以及Yelich等人，如何調兵遣將、發揮最大戰力，是一門大學問。
美國隊預賽分在C組，與加拿大、哥倫比亞、多明尼加同組，多明尼加是上屆冠軍。
